Eugene McGovern is entering his 10th year as Director of Rugby. A former player, having starred for both Old Crescent and Munster, Eugene comes from a family steeped in the Club tradition and is looking forward to implementing the Rugby Strategy for Old Crescent.
Shane Mullally, another former player, makes the step up from 4 years as the Club’s Attack and Backs Coach to assume the mantle of Head Coach (Attack and On The Ball). After 17 years of AIL playing experience Shane will have coached and / or played with many of the current players at school and underage level.
Cathal O’Reilly, former Captain and Charity Cup winner with Old Crescent, assumes the responsibilities of Assistant Coach (And Off The Ball) further strengthening the pathway playing to coaching within the Club.
Peter Murray returns as Skills and Scrum Half Specialist having joined Old Crescent as a player in 2015 and represented Munster at Underage level. He joined the Senior Coaching ticket in 2019.
Munster and Ireland international Rory Scannell will be no stranger to Old Crescent supporters who will be delighted to hear that he has taken up the position as our Assistant Attack and Backs Coach.
Rory’s vast experience will certainly add to the knowledge pool provided by the incumbents.
Andy Brace, a former Belgian international and best known as an outstanding international referee, will also join us in a coaching capacity, having been associated with the Club for many years as a player and supporter. Andy will be our Breakdown and Transition Consultant.
Jeff Heneghan will return for Strength and Conditioning and this year that portfolio will be enhanced by the addition of Ken Byrnes.
President Pat Rickard echoed the thoughts of all Old Crescent supporters when welcoming this exciting mix of fresh and experienced coaching talent to the Club’s roster as we all look forward to the start of the new rugby season.
