The 2025/26 MINI RUGBY SEASON IS FOR CHILDREN BORN BETWEEN 2014 – 2020.

For mini rugby (under 6 – 12 years) we introduce our new players to the fundamentals of rugby with plenty of fun games and exercises (non-contact). Our games focus on skills development, physical literacy and most importantly having fun.

REGISTRATION
All players must be registered as a member of Old Crescent and also with the IRFU to train and play for insurance purposes.

Footwear

Boots are the ideal footwear to be used whilst training and playing. Typically metal studs are used for SG (soft ground) whereas moulded studs are typically used for FG (firm ground). This applies to players and coaches. Please bear this in mind if buying boots for the new season and when your child comes to training.

Boot Care

Check your boots regularly, particularly studs. Metal studs are the best option but check for worn or sharpened studs. Failure to do so can result in nasty injuries.

Gear & Hydration

Gum shields are compulsory for all training from U8 and above as teams introduce tackling. Please ensure that players are appropriately kitted out for the weather conditions (including base layers, hats and/or rain wear during the winter months). Players should have a water bottle at all times.

Training Times

Please be on time, as the warm up is a critical part of the session.

Homework (for players & parents)

The more you practice the better you get!
Carry the ball in two hands at all times.
Pass behind you. – Stay on your feet.
Never run backwards. Always run forward!
Practice scoring a try by bringing the ball to your chest in one hand and support yourself with the other hand, as you go to ground. You can also force the ball to ground firmly with 2 hands, if you do not feel like throwing yourself to the ground.
Practice your catching.
Practice your passing, but remember don’t spin the ball.
